Guarianthe skinneri 'Will Bates' x self #4595 (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). Species: Formerly included in Cattleya until 2003 when it was separated and published as Guarianthe. This grows from southern Mexico to Costa Rica, where it is the national flower. It is a stout, medium sized bifoliate that grows as an epiphyte usually from sea level to 4100 ft. At higher elevations, up to 7600 ft, where it also grows as a lithophyte and a terrestrial. The plants are upright and can reach 20" tall and carry 4 to 15 of the 3.5" flowers. All of the flowers may not open at the same time. Culture: Grow in bright light while providing good air movement. The temperatures in nature are fairly uniform through out the year. The nights are in the low 60's F and the days are in the low to mid 80's F. January through March have less rain. Water plants when actively growing and make sure roots dry quickly.
